Daniel E. DayDaniel E. Day (1913 - 2003)

In the March 23, 1929 Chicago Weekly Defender, Daniel Edgar Day was billed as “the youngest cartoonist in America.” He became the protégé of Defender staff cartoonist, Leslie Rogers, when he was 14, and had already been associated with the Chicago Defender for 3 years.

Day was born in Montgomery, Alabama arriving in Chicago in 1923 and was added to the staff on August 27th, creating illustrations for the Billiken page for Children.

He is listed as Defender’s Photography Editor in 1940. Later, as a Lieutenant Colonel, Day is described as a former NNPA Bureau Chief in 1967.
